The Guru from My Sports Picks retook first place after Jeff Edelstein from The Trentonian went a disappointing 4-12. John Walsh from The Betting Advantage went 8-8 while The Wiz went 4-12.

Vince Mullins of Fantasy College Blitz and The Wiz from My Sports Picks have won week 14 of the My Sports Picks NCAA Football Challenge. Each went 5-3, with John Walsh from The Betting Advantage, Todd Devries from College Football Geek, and The Guru from My Sports Picks lagging far behind.

The Wiz has widened his lead to almost insurmountable proportions, and barring a catastrophic collapse, he should win the challenge handily. (Hopefully that hex did the trick!)

The Guru Sweeps the Leg, wins Week 13 of the My Sports Picks NCAA Football Challenge

Jeff's 9-7 mark inched him closer to the .500 mark, but he still trails The Guru by a wide margin overall. The Guru from My Sports Picks stands alone in first with a 77-66-1 record. John Walsh from The Betting Advantage is 30-27, but is an astounding 4-0 in his Best Bets. Oh My! The Guru Takes Week 7 with a 10-2-1 Mark!!

Hi Fans,

The Guru from My Sports Picks shocked the betting world by going 10-2-1 and vaulting to the top of the leaderboard in wins with a 46-40-1 record. Going on his "There are a lot of awful NFL teams theory", The Guru knew that a team like the Tampa Bay Bucs couldn't hang with the Pats, that the horrible Raiders would be no match for the Jets, or that the terrible Redskins would be helpless against an angry Eagles team.

Harris Bornstein of http://www.footballbet.net/ and the iBetFootball app finished with a 6-6-1 mark, and saw his Best Bet streak end with a Carolina loss. Jeff Edelstein of The Trentonian also finished with a 6-6-1 mark, and saw his Best Bet entry Minnesota fall in a thriller to the Steelers. The Wiz from My Sports Picks finished with a 5-7-1 mark.

You Don't Have to Be a Collinsworth to figure out that The NFL is Full of Awful Teams!

 Hi Fans,

Week 7 of the NFL is over, and what a week of blowouts it was! 6 of the 13 games were decided by 20 points or greater, and 11 of the 13 games were decided by 10 points or more! You don't have to be a Collinsworth to figure out the following: There are a lot of really bad teams out there. Parity, where are you? Well, let's take a look shall we?

According to my expert analysis, here's my breakdown:

Great teams = 5 (Broncos, Colts, Vikings, Giants, Saints)
Good teams = 7 (Eagles, Packers, Falcons, Cards, Bengals, Steelers, Pats)
Average teams = 8 (Cowboys, Bears, 49ers, Jets, Ravens, Chargers, Jags, Texans)
Bad teams = 2 (Seahawks, Dolphins)
Awful teams = 10 (Redskins, Lions, Bucs, Rams, Panthers, Bills, Browns, Titans, Raiders, Chiefs)

So if we looked at a curve, you could say that we have perfect parity: 12 teams that are above average, 8 teams that are average, 12 teams that are below average. But when you break down the teams in slightly finer detail, you see how badly the awful teams disrupt the parity curve. And I personally don't think that awful accurately describes these awful teams. If it weren't for head to head competition and a couple of fluke games, we're talking 2-14 or worse for these teams.

What does this mean for the rest of the season? The way I see it, as long as one of those awful teams is playing a team that is average or better, expect a spread of 9 points or greater and expect a blowout. Bottom line, these teams just can't compete.

On the flip side, beware of the good and average teams. Are their records inflated because they have destroyed an awful team? On average, I'd be very leary when any of these good or average teams play a great team. Bet accordingly. 

My expert picks will reflect this philosophy the rest of the year. Happy Picking!

Great news, Apple has approved our changes that we made to My Sports Picks - Football 09. Our latest version has the following changes:

1. We flipped the Home and Away team so that Away team shows up on the top, and the Home Team is on the bottom. This fix is on the My Picks and the Scoreboard screens.


2. We made the odds and the line more precise on the Picker wheels in the New Picks screen. Now bettors will be able to more accurately determine payout from each bet.


3. We changed the Name "Visit OKdub Website" to "Expert/Handicapper Picks" on the "More" screen

Fans, week 4 of the NFL is in the history books. After watching the first four weeks, it is abundantly clear that there are a core group of teams that really suck! Tampa, St. Louis, Detroit, Tennessee(!), Oakland, Kansas City, Washington, Cleveland are all awful, and there are another group of teams that are in line to join this awful group.

Did You Know? Adjusting the Line and Odds Manually Is a Breeze!

We've gotten several emails asking whether it's possible to adjust the line and the odds in My Sports Picks - Football 09. The answer is: absolutely! Here's how:

First pick the game you want to bet on. Let's take this week's Miami vs. Buffalo game. We get our line feed from Pinnacle Sports, and the current line is Miami +1. However, Bodog has the line at Miami +1.5. Since I think Chad Henne has the makeup of a champion and will keep his team very close, I want that extra half point. So here are the steps to adjust the line from Miami +1 to Miami +1.5.

1. Pick Miami, then choose the Line bet where Miami is +1.You are now at the screen where you would enter your bet amount. You'll see that there is an orange arrow next to the Line +1 (-110).
You will then get to a screen with a wheel that let's you choose to adjust both the line and the odds.After you adjust either or both of these, then go back to the previous screen and place your pick. It's that simple.

I thought I'd let you in on a great piece of functionality inside My Sports Picks - Football 09. But before I do that, we've posted our Week 5 NCAA Football Expert Picks. Need a reminder on how to get to these picks from directly inside our app? First, click on the "More" button. Then click on "Visit OKdub Website". You will then see the following Page:

It will be much easier in our next release, where you will see a link that says "Experts".

Now on to some cool functionality: Emailing Your Picks. This feature has received a lot of positive feedback from our fans, but for those who haven't seen it yet, check it out. After you make your picks, check out the bottom of your My Picks screen. You will see an "Email Picks" button. Here's a screenshot:Hit the button, and without leaving the app, you can launch your iPhone mail screen. Stick an email address, press send and you can email your picks and come right back to the My Picks screen without ever leaving the app! This is what it looks like:

INTRODUCTION
This is the seventh year that the Engine has been available to the public on the internet and the first year for the iBetFootball app each year the sales and satisfaction grow. I wanted to give you a bit of background regarding the Engine as well as speak a little about football betting in general. The Pro Football Forecast Betting Handicapping Software Engine started out as an idea and developed into a system about 16 years ago, before everything became so computerized. The core of the system has been remained similar to its origin, but has been refined and improved over the years by analyzing different factors and computing their affect on the outcome of games. About 11 years ago I coded the Pro Football Forecast Betting Handicapping Software Engine into a BASIC program for my own use. It remained in this state until about 8 years ago when I again transformed the program into an excel spreadsheet which enabled much greater flexibility in analysis of factors, which in turn enabled a greater winning percentage to emerge. This type of regression analysis over the past 7 years or so has fine-tuned the Pro Football Forecast Betting Handicapping Software Engine into the product that it is today.

THE SYSTEM
The first step used by the System in analyzing each game is to use key offensive and defensive statistics (which are easily available in the newspaper or on the internet) to calculate a Predicted Score for each game. The exact calculation method and weighted factors that produces this predicted score is the basis of the Pro Football Forecast Betting Handicapping Software Engine and so I am not able to discuss exactly how it is calculated, however I can give you a brief description. The Pro Football Forecast Betting Handicapping Software Engine quantifies the offensive efficiency of each team as well as their defensive efficiency, and how these key statistics relate to each other and the results are translated into points.
In addition, other important statistical factors come into play when evaluating football games. This system can examine blowout scores to see if they are a result of simply a better team, or in fact were lucky bounces that occurred via turnovers. In fact, in 75% of NFL games from recent history the team that covered the spread was the team that had a better turnover differential. Another important trend factor analyzed is a rolling strength team power rating where trends of wins or losses can be a helpful predictor of future games. There is also a home field advantage factor that is added to the statistical mix as well. All these factors are combined to compute the Predicted Score which is then compared with the betting line point spread to see if any discrepancies can be discerned and to see if the point spread is accurate, or if it has been swayed by misguided public opinion or money hungry oddsmakers.

WINNING PERCENTAGE
Using the Pro Football Forecast Betting Handicapping Software Engine and iBetFootball has allowed me to achieve a winning percentage against the point spread of over 60% overall in the past 7 seasons. For instance, in 2004, the System went 72.9% best bet winners straight-up and 61.3% on best bets against the spread. In 2005 the System went 76.2% winners straight up for best bets. In 2006 it was another profitable year for the system going 58.3% versus the spread and 79.4% in straight up best bets. 2007 results were 64.7% best bets versus the spread and 80.8% best bets straight up. 2008 results were 67.2% best bets versus the spread and 78.4% best bets straight up! The statistical factors for each team are downloaded into the Premium system by the user each week. The stat file is available each Wednesday night by 11 PM from our website. This download takes approximately one minute and then all you have left to do is select the teams that are playing the games that day (which should take 1 minute) and ALL THE PREDICTED SCORES AND RESULTS ARE AUTOMATICALLY CALCULATED! Nothing could be easier! Of course, automated scoring keeps track of weekly wins and over/under results as well as year to date results. There is also a betting ledger to keep track of your monetary success and charts and graphs showing team statistical data comparisons.

Fans, the week 2 Pro Football Expert Picks was a not even close. Football Version 1.2 Has Been Approved By Apple!

Great news. My Sports Picks version 1.2 has been approved by Apple and is ready for sale on the App Store. We love our latest features for football:

1. Possession Indicator. Critical new feature. Now we can know who has the ball, along with the quarter and time remaining. Huge. Check out the screenshot of both the My Picks screen and the Scoreboard Screen
